Because Playa del Carmen has maintained its status as a small fishing town all the activities are found along the few-miles long strip that runs along the city known as Quinta Avenida, or 5th Avenue. It is located within one block from the beach, runs parallel to the beach, so just follow the walkway! Despite it being small, there is an assortment of specialty shops, restaurants, bars, rentals, inns, convenience stores, boutiques and hotels. Among the many interesting things one can purchase in Playa are hammocks, lamps made of coconuts, hand-made straw hats, hand-made wooden sculptures, original paintings and even stylish clothing.

Unlike Cancun, the proximity can be very convenient for you need only to walk from one bar to the other and then to the hotel once the night is over, basically everything is within walking distance. You can always rent a scooter, motorbike, get a taxi, or as you can see from the virtual tour people in bikes can take you just about anywhere you want along the strip.

I can't mention Playa without mentioning the incredibly multicultural cuisine. Playa's restaurants offer a variety of food including Mexican, Italian, Mayan-Yucateca, French, German, and even Asian.

During the day it is quiet and peaceful but at night, Playa's 5th Avenue really comes to life. The nights here can be passionate, energetic, and filled with laughter and good times. And how can it not? For when you're here, one can really enjoy life to its fullest and there's not time or space for negative feelings. Being in Playa at night is almost like being at a carnival. It's so amazing to see fire-breathers, giant snakes and live exotic animals up close right on the street!

Walking from one place to another you can encounter an array of artists anything from painters to musicians to dancers and even actors. Something you have to enjoy is the music of "duos" and "trios", who come to your table while dining at a restaurant or can simply be found on a sidewalk. They're known for singing some of the most romantic songs in the Spanish language.

Should I get a car or scooter/motorbike?
Since in New Zealand the minimum age to drive a car and other motor transportations is 15. I'm going to be 15 in 5 months. So, I'm kind of ready to choose. But I , honestly, don't know what should I choose. Since my high school is 20 minutes drive away and I'm involved in many sports plus my dad wants to relax and forget to send me to here and there and everywhere! My father prefers me to drive the car for safety and shelters from rain. My mother doesn't mind. For the scooter it is easier to find parking, can escape long jams, and blah blah. The list is forever! But the only drawbacks it can be hazardous, I can't carry a passenger and nor can I handle lots of stuff especially on the holiday trips. Oh, this is so dreamy. Ready for clouds of advice in no time! ;o)

Weird Question about a rubbish dump?
Hey ok this is prtty weird but i spose il ask anyways, Im doing a university placement for 13 weeks in another state and have no car to get tp work (roughly 40 minute trip on bus 5 days week). The bus is getting really old cos I have to transfer on 2 buses. Anyways i was thinkin bout buying a scooter/motorbike. I went to this place today called the 'dumpshop'...a shop that sells stuff at the dump and I found this scooter (didnt look to bad...bout a 95-98 model chinese type scooter. Should I buy it and take it to the mechnics to be fixed, keeping in mind my budgets bout 500 dollars and I dont know wats wrong with it at all. Or should I not worry bout it and keep looking? Should I take the risk?
