Gift ideas for best friend's 23rd birthday. Looking for a practical and personal gift for my best guy pal?
I want to get him a nice gift for his April birthday. We've known each over 14 years and usually don't buy gifts for each other, but this year I want to get him something special. He's a "guy's guy." He's mechanically minded... likes working on cars, motorcycles, dirtbikes, etc. He's a also fan of classic rock and country music. He's got just about every tool made available at Sears, so that's not an option. I want to avoid impersonal presents such as giftcards and impractical things he'll never use. Thanks for the help! Question regarding purchasing a dirtbike or ATV?
I have been very interested in motorcycles, dirtbikes, and ATVs since a very young age. I am hoping to purchase either an 08 Yamaha TTR230 (dirtbike) or an 08 Yamaha Raptor 250 (ATV) soon. I live in Southern California, I am 17 years old and have been driving for at least 2 years with no accidents or tickets (and I plan to keep it that way). I have done some research but I still have a few problems and questions. When I go to the dealership, I am expecting to be paying for: -the ATV or dirtbike -proper off-roading gear I am a bit unsure about the whole registration and insurance process and would like to know how that all works. I would appreciate if someone could also tell me or give me a rough estimate on how much I will be paying for registration and insurance. Like I said, I am 17, no accidents, and I live in Southern California. Thank you all for your time. I am aware of the risks I will be taking. It is my decision to do what I want so please don't lecture me on changing my decision. I asked a question and expect it to be answered. Please refrain from changing the subject.

California has green and red stickers depending on the emissions of the vehicle and requires registration, regardless whether they are on or off-highway vehicles. Thanks for answering Ross J. The dirtbike or ATV will just be for casual dune or trail riding, no racing or tracks. A fellow motorcyclist friend had suggested getting theft insurance at least, but I am a very responsible person so that will most likely not be an option. As for other insurance, I will most likely not be crashing around and doing some heavy damage (lol) so insurance will probably be out of the picture. I'll also keep your advice in mind. I just have one last question then. What is the whole deal with registration for off-highway vehicles? What is/are the costs?
