Motorcycle Training
New Motorcycle Test to be Introduced
If you are a motorcycle rider, you are probably already aware of the fact that starting next year in 2008 it will be a bit more difficult for you to obtain your motorcycle driving license. The reason why is that the Great Britain government has ascertained that the requirements for being able to operate a motorcycle must be raised, and in response to this they have implemented a new Motorcycle Training test.
Starting next year all potential motorcycle driving license holders must pass the new and improved Motorcycle Training test to be eligible for that license. Requirements are stricter, and there will be people who will be turned down for their motorcycle license simply because they do not meet the ability and eligibility requirements.
The new Motorcycle Training test follows more stringent requirements than the old one; for example, the potential licensee must undergo a series of examinations that consists of two halves.
The first half of the new motorcycle training test is not conducted on the main roads for safety purposes. This ensures that nobody who lacks the proper motorcycle operating skills endangers the safety and lives of common motorists that are on the road trying to get to work in time, just for a pupil to undergo a driving examination. This first portion of the test is a great deal like some of the regular driving license practical portions, with cones marking off the manoeuvres that must be taken to pass that portion of the exam.
Needless to say, if the applicant fails to demonstrate a proper ability to drive a motorcycle during this first portion of the motorcycle training test they will not be allowed to proceed to the next portion of the exam.
The second half of the new motorcycle training test in the UK consists of safely operating a motorcycle on the public roads and expressways with other cars, other motorcyclists, and even moped drivers and a load of pedestrians on the road with you as well. This is the applicant's chance to demonstrate their knowledge of traffic laws in the UK as pertaining to motorcyclists and motor vehicle drivers.
Both portions of the new motorcycle training test must be passed to the satisfaction of the exam proctor for the person's application for a motorcycle driving license in Great Britain will be even considered; if any part of their competency as a motorcycle driver is questionable in the slightest bit, the individual will not be issued a license.
James Johnson, well travelled and glad he took is CBT and went on to complete his motorcycle training and passed his full licence.
Would you consider buying a 1998 Honda Shadow vlx with 12k miles?
I just completed a motorcycle training class and would like to purchase a simple bike to improve my skills and figure out whether riding in my area is something I want to pursue further. The motorcycles in the class were obviously very small--I trained on a 125 cc Kawasaki Eliminator. In looking at local classified ads for used bikes for sale, I came across a 98 Honda Shadow vlx with 12k miles. Is it worth my time driving to go take a look at it? (It's about an hour away)

who has recently completed DAS motorcycle training and recently taken their DAS test? can you please explain..?
can you please explain how difficult/easy each of you found the DAS training and test.
thanks in advance to any answers. i just want my licence, but im unsure whether to bother with DAS or just go restricted so i can do the test on my own 125 that i'm used to (therefore i'm more likely to pass).
did you do an intense course that included both the DAS training and the test, or just have a few lessons on a big bike then go for it? and how much training did you need on a larger bike before you were confident in handling it? how long had you been riding a 125 beforehand? and was it difficult passing the test on a bigger bike after getting used to a little 125?
thanks.

I am looking to live out a motorcycle dream. What motorcycle should i chose?
I am a large 35 yo man, bad boy type. It has been my dream since a child to live as a Motorcycle Nomad. Summer of 2011 I am finally going to do that. I am going to cross the united states and maybe ship off into Europe on a motorcycle leaving from Los Angeles. I am traveling alone and i want a motorcycle that will handle the journey and one that i can be proud of. I have narrowed it down to 2 motorcycles. Used GSXR Hayabusa or a Used Harley Davidson Night Rod Special. I will be on a limited fixed income of $500-$750 a month from my rental property. I buy my bike in 4 weeks to begin my evasive motorcycle training courses and possibly survival courses as my income may not be enough for a comfortable living. I am trying to find a riding partner but it doesnt look good. Thank you for your comments.
I may pick up small jobs along the way to supplement my income or just for a home cooked meal. After all I am a jack of all trades. The only thing i know for sure is that i am leaving los angeles and not looking back. I am hoping someone with a similiar experience might shed some light on this for me.
-Update The reason i posted this in the racing section is because im looking to do this on a racing bike. Something i might also be able to have some fun with and get into some trouble from time to time. I know that i could cross the US in a minivan and be very comfortable. Im not that kind of guy. I dont want to be a granpa one day telling my grand children how i crossed the US in a minivan. What kind of fun is that bs? Please grandpas out there, not need respond, this is a racing question for motocycos! I am looking for the most fun for my money. Read this and maybe you can get the idea what i am talking about: http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63
