Top Five Best Motorcycle Gear For Hot Weather
As all motorcycle enthusiasts can attest, summertime is the best time for taking to the road on your motorcycle. But riding in the hot summer sun while wearing heavy leather can make the freedom of the road a hot, sweaty and possibly fatal experience. Heatstroke and dehydration are real concerns for summer bikers. Luckily, motorcycle clothing companies have come out with some stylish, lightweight options for the summer.
When looking for a hot weather motorcycle jacket, the aim is to find something that is lightweight and durable. Vanson Leather's Mark 2 Ventilator Jacket , ($218.88, www.bikerstore.com), is one of the most protective, fully ventilated jackets on the market. This jacket is made from 1000 denier Cordura nylon mesh and reinforced with leather and armor where necessary. The Mark 2 has been updated to include wind and water resistant outer liner that can be put away in the lower back waist panel. Straps on the arm not only keep the armor in place, but also prevent the wind from chafing. The Mark 2 Ventilator Jacket is black and comes in sizes XS to XXXXL.
When purchasing hot weather motorcycle gear, it is also important to wear something under the jacket that breathes. Tecknics Summer Racing Shirt's , (www.motorcycle-superstore.com), casual cut and microfiber construction makes it a smart and stylish choice. The garments nylon mesh sides allow air flow and breathe-ability. The Summer Racing Shirt also features two buttoned chest pockets and embroidered Tecknic logos. It comes in red and black, sizes XS to XXXL.
Another way to stay cool while riding in the summer is to have a good vest. TechNiche's Deluxe Evaporative Cooling Vest , ($46, www.soundrider.com), is one of the best hot weather motorcycle vests on the market. The Deluxe ECV provides up to ten hours of cooling relief after soaking and when used with mesh riding clothing. The vest's high collar and hook and loop closure add extra cooling and sun protection than most riding vests. The ECV features a specially designed quilted nylon outer, polymer embedded fabric inner, a water-repellent nylon liner and a black cotton-poly elastic trim. TechNiche's Deluxe Evaporative Cooling Vest comes in four colors, sizes small through XXXL.
Hot weather motorcycle pants need to be a combination of protective and breathable. A good pick would be Fieldsheer's Four Season Mesh Pants 2009, ($163.95, www.bikerstore.com). These pants are breathable and super abrasion resistant due to their 1000 denier FS Polytitanium Mesh with DuPont coated Heitina in high impact areas. The pants feature a full length, ripstop water resistant quilted liner that is removable. The Four Season Mesh pants come in black and silver, sizes 30-44.
Summer motorcycle enthusiasts also need a good pair of breathable bikers gloves. Spy's Summer/Spring Full Finger Gloves ($45, www.brosh.com) are made with a breathable textile fabric with Kevlar Carbon protection on the fingers. The gloves have a Velcro fastening stripe with leather on the hand palms. Spy's Spring/Summer Full Finger Gloves come in sizes XS to XXL. The company recommends that you order one size bigger than your usual winter glove size.
With all these cooling hot weather motorcycle gear options you should feel free to amp up your summer fun without passing out from the heat.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate to get leather motorcycle pants tailored?
I recently bought a pair of leather riding pants that are a little too big. Sadly, the smaller size is discontinued, and I can't find a pair anywhere. Anyways, the size I have isn't terribly big, but the kneepads/sliders don't line up correctly. The pants have a scrunched up elastic portion around the knees, so I'm hoping a tailor could cut part of that and sew it shorter, but I know basically nothing about tailoring. If anyone can give me any advice, I'd really appreciate it
