Motorcycle Tires, Where To Buy And When To Change
Riders should check the tires on their motorcycle often. Rider safety courses promote checking tires before every ride. Local laws may require certain tread depths. Here are a few tips that you can use to help determine when you need to change your motorcycle tires.

When to Change Motorcycle Tires
Motorcycle Registration Inspections
Depending on where you live, a motorcycle inspection may be required before you register for tags. These inspections often include a tire tread depth test. Check with your local registration office for more information about what is required. Many tire manufactures suggest replacing a tire at 1/32" or 2/32" tread depth, which may be in line with your local laws. Quick Visual Inspections Quickly look over both tires for excessive tread wear, damage from nails or other road items, cracks or damage to the sides of the tire, raises or bubbles in the side walls that could affect the stability and integrity of the tire. Damaged tires require immediate attention. Some tire manufacturers and motorcycle shops suggest replacing both tires at the same time. This is not required and is a personal preference.
Cool Tire Check
When checking tire pressure always check when the tire is cool. Tire pressure increases as the tire warms up when riding. If a tire has a slow leak it should be replaced as soon as possible. Low tire pressure can cause all types pf damage to a tire, which can result in tire failure.
Tread Wear
Motorcycle tires tend to wear in the center of the tire. Look for uneven tread wear as well as excessive tread wear. Local laws may require a certain depth. Also look again for cracks, punctures and other damage. Motorcycle Tire Specs If you determine your tire needs replacing, always buy a tire that meets the specs required by the motorcycle manufacturer. Motorcycle Tire Patches Many shops will refuse to patch a motorcycle tire unless it is a short-term fix while ordering a new tire. Motorcycle tires should not be patched if the puncture is anything other than a small round puncture. Large holes, over 1/4 inch, or odd shaped punctures should not be patched.
