Cross Country Motorcycle Trip
Treating Wind Burn After A Motorcycle Ride
In the United States, millions of adults travel cross country by way of motorcycle. In fact, in middle age, more adults look to motorcycles as a way to alleviate stress and engage in a favorite recreational activity. If you are planning a Cross Country Motorcycle Trip, it is important to be prepared for the types of minor injuries that may occur including injury that arises from wind. While rare, there are some adults who will sustain a wind burn injury and suffer from unnecessary pain while riding a motorcycle.
Wind burn is a unique health complication for motorcycle riders. In most cases of wind burn, the injury occurs to the facial skin but can affect the hands and legs if proper protective clothing is not worn. For most motorcycle riders, the greatest amount of pain comes from facial wind burn and wind burn to the hands.
If you sustain a wind burn after riding a motorcycle, the injury most likely occurs from lack of protection on the face. Wearing a motorcycle helmet that is equipped with a facial protective guard is optimal as this will prevent wind from coming into direct contact with your face. Also, be sure to wear motorcycle gloves as this will protect your hands as well. Even with best motorcycle protective clothing there is still a risk for sustaining wind burn after riding for many hours.
Wind burns, resulting from long periods of motorcycle riding, can usually be effectively treated using most forms of heavy cream. The signs of wind burn are usually redness of the skin and excessive dryness and chaffing. Pain is often associated with wind burn and using an anti-inflammatory product, such as ibuprofen, swelling and pain can be minimized. Heavy moisturizing creams are also effective at improving skin and should even be considered for use during a motorcycle ride. When wind burn seems to be quite excessive, medical attention may be necessary as prescription creams used to treat burns may be the best option in some cases. The key to your optimal health outcome will lie in seeking medical attention early and then following doctor's orders.
Cross country motorcycle riding is generally a safe recreational activity for adults. While there are many types of injuries that can occur with motorcycle riding, some of the most common occur from simply not wearing protective gear and failing to protect skin from wind and sun damage. When riding cross country, be sure to moisturize and protect your skin well and when suffering from wind burn, seek medical attention to determine what creams are most appropriate for treatment. In doing so, you can ensure that your skin is given the best care and you'll be able to continue riding cross country for many more miles to come. Minnesota's purple highways???
A co-worker just returned from a cross-country motorcycle trip. As they were cruising on I-90 through Minnesota they noticed that large sections of pavement were purple! We have several theories here in the office, but I'm wondering if anyone (a native Minnesotian perhaps?) knows the origin/explanation of the purple hued pavement. I've done goole, ask, and dogpile searches for this, but all I get back are links to a rose variety --named of all things--purple pavement! If you could post a link that shows a photo that would be a bonus! TIA!

Can I eat EXPIRED emergency rations?
I was just digging around some old stuff and found lots of rations and water. They have a 5 year shelf life and as of today it is 5 years and 5 months old.
So it is 5 months after its expiration.
I want to eat them for breakfest, lunch, and dinner until I run out... And I was going to save a few for my cross country motorcycle trip.
Would I get sick because the rations are expired?
Thanks in advance!
Also, if you don't know please do not answer but if you really have that much free time I suppose I can't stop you...
I forgot to mention that it is fully sealed!
Also I couldn't tell you if it smells bad because last time I tried them they sucked.
