Ranking Of The Top 4 Best Shows Currently On TV!

1. Weeds: Season 1 - present (2005-TBD) Weeds is a hit black serio-comedy on Showtime, which satirizes a pot-dealing widowed mom of two (male) offspring from ebullient -- and sunny -- California. She asks her lax and Jewish brother-in-law to help (unsuccessfully) raise her children. The mother's eldest son is not a virgin; her youngest is a "potty mouth" and extremely bright. The youngest is also periodically ridiculed by bullies in his school. At age 13, he looses his virginity and eventually he starts drinking alcohol. Furthermore, the ensemble characters must deal with their self-centered neighbor -- who makes me laugh so hard -- and who is the show's antagonist. Shockingly enough, the show becomes more of a crime drama as it goes on.The family moved a few times within the southern-part of the state; however, following the events of her youngest son's murder -- in defense of a dangerous woman's violent threats (some of which she previously attempted), who by the way is affiliated with the mother's later husband (a mayor from Mexico), to which she had a child with -- has the family fleeing the state up North within the country (along with her new baby.) By the conclusion of season six, the mother turns herself in -- acting as if she executed the lady -- to protect her family as they flee by plane to Denmark, Copenhagen.

The show is created by Jenji Kohan (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Tracey Takes On..., Sex and the City), who serves as executive producer and showrunner alongside series' writer Roberto Benabib. In addition, Kohan is the head writer, as she writes the most vital episodes each season. Kohan use to produce TV shows for HBO; however, she became weary of writing teleplays for others. When she went to conceptualize Weeds for HBO, they disapproved it because they felt they would only have angry viewers, as their were children in adult-rated roles. She then went to Showtime, and although they offer lower salaries than any other network in the media industry, she wanted to do her own thing. Subsequently, Showtime approved and Lionsgate Television bought it.

Two other writers of the show that are worth noting -- who are simply amazing at the scripts they write -- are Victoria Morrow (by season six, she was promoted the role of supervising producer; co-executive producer, hopefully, by next season?) and producer Stephan Falk (his website says that, by next season, he has moved up the hierarchy as supervising producer.) Moreover, staff writers Brendan Kelly and David Holstein, along with the other executive producers -- writer Matthew Salsberg and directors Craig Zisk and Scott Ellis -- are equally as fabulous.

Just as a side note, two cast members are renowned in the Hollywood business: the so-called "sexy" Mary-Louise Parker is a Golden Globe, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning actress; child actor Alexander Gould played "Nemo" in Pixar's Finding Nemo. Elizabeth Perkins, Justin Kirk and Alexander Gould all deserved to win their Emmy Award nominations.

The seventh season airs Monday, June 27 at 8pm ET/PT. The season takes place three years from where last season left off. It finds Nancy arrested in New York City and Andy, Silas, and Shane currently residing in Denmark, Copenhagen. Rumors speculate that the show might end after the seventh season. Fortunately, Kohan is co-creating a new show with the fabulous Falk, which is to air on Showtime.

Starring: Mary-Louise Parker (as Nancy Botwin), Elizabeth Perkins (as Celia Hodes; season 1-5), Toyne Patano (as Heylia James; season 1-3), Romany Malco (as Conrad Shepard; season 1-3), Demia'n Bichir (as Esteban Reyes; season 4-6), Hunter Parish (as Silas Botwin), Alexander Gould (as Shane Botwin), with Justin Kirk (as Andy Botwin), and Kevin Nealon (as Doug Wilson)

Recurring Stars: Allie Grant (as Isabelle Hodes; season 1-5), Andy Milder (as Dean Hodes; season 1-6), Haley Hudson (as Quinn Hodes; season 1/5), Rene'e Victor (as Lupita; season 1-5), Martin Donovan (as Peter Scottson; season 1-2), Shoshannah Stern (as Megan Graves; season 1-2), Fatso-Fasano (as Marvin; season 2-4), Page Kennedy (as U-turn; season 2-3), Gui'llermo Diaz (as Guillermo Garci'a Go'mez; season 3-6), Matthew Modine (as Sullivan Groff; season 3), Mary-Kate Olsen (as Tara Lindman; season 3), Albert Brooks (as Lenny Botwin; season 4), Enrique Castillo (as Cesar de la Cruz; season 4-6), Hemky Madera (as Ignacio Morero, Jr.; season 4-6), Kate del Castillo (as Pilar Zuazo; season 5), Richard Dreyfuss (as Warren Schiff; season 6), Rick Ravanello (as Lars Guinard; season 6)

My Grade: A++ 2. Modern Family: Season 1 - present (2010-TBD)

Modern Family is an Emmy Award-winning mockumentary series on ABC, which satirizes an array of families, all of whom are related to one man; this includes a varied-cultural family, a homosexual couple, and simply a dysfunctional family.

The television hit is created by screenwriter Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan, who both serve as the executive producers, or more specifically, showrunners -- the highest-ranking role in the TV industry. Nevertheless, Lloyd and Levitan supervise the writing team meetings with the staff writers, story editors, and producer(s). They also choose the episodes which each writer has to provide a script for, edit and/or rewrite it, run the show's production, supervise the directors, etc.

Emboldened by Lloyd and Levitan's authentic families, the duo write some of the scripts per season either together or separately. Despite having a hilarious dialogue and an outstanding ensemble cast, the show is not unique in terms of plot or overall concept.

Starring: Ed O'Neill (as Jay Pritchett), Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (as Sofia Vergara), Julie Bowen (as Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (as Phil Dunphy), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (as Mitchell Pritchett), Eric Stonestreet (as Cameron Tucker), Sarah Hyland (as Haley Dunphy), Ariel Winter (as Alex Dunphy), Nolan Gould (as Luke Dunphy), Rico Rodriguez (as Manny Pritchett)

Recurring Stars: Reid Ewing (as Dylan), Justin Kirk (as Charlie Bingham; season 1-2), Suzy Nakamura (as Dr. Miura; season 1), Fred Willard (as Frank Dunphy; season 1)

Reception: A total of 12.61 million people have watched the series.

My Grade: A+ (It is as good as sitcoms Seinfeld, The Nanny, and The George Lopez Show)

3. United States of Tara: Season 1-present (2009-TBD)

United States of Tara is a dark comedic television drama, which is currently in its third season on Showtime. The series tells of a mother from Kansas City with a husband and their two children. However, the mother suffers from a condition known as Dissociative identity disorder (DID), also known as Multiple personality disorder (MPD.) Meanwhile, her son is gay and dates other guys in his school. She also has a daughter and her next-store neighbor is her ditzy sister. Each season follows the protagonist's alters, as she makes several attempts to control them. When she is in deep-stress and cannot manage a situation at hand, she uncontrollably switches personalities. One of her personalities is "Alice, " the housewife to the family. Another alter is "Buck, " a man who wears large glasses, uses a vulgar language, smokes cigarettes, and rides a motorcycle. "T" is a sixteen-year-old girl who wears an excessive amount of makeup, as well as, a dress, and also smokes pot. In later episodes, she exhibits some unusual alters as a "Chicken, " a childhood version of herself. "Gimme" is an animal-like creature which appears mainly in the middle of the night. Moreover, when one of her previous therapists lends her a book, she becomes that author when she changes personalities. The author's name is "Shoshana Schoenbaum, " and unaware of this alter, she thinks she is her therapist. Other characters arise, some of which are related to her childhood. For example, she becomes her wicked half-brother "Bryce" -- Bryce, who had sexually harassed her when she was younger before her parents placed her into a foster home with her sister for a short period of time. Her alter (Bryce) kills some of her other personalities, and desires to eventually murder Tara. The series is created by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Burlesque) who is the executive producer, in the form of head writer. Famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Back to The Future, Tiny Toon Adventures, Schindler's List, Animaniacs) conceptualized the series and is executive producer, under his DreamWorks Television tag. Former writer/executive producer Alexa Junge (Sex and the City) was the showrunner; however, Junge quit after season one, and subsequently, writer/executive producer Jill Soloway took over as co-showrunner alongside Cody. To add, Craig Zisk is also the executive producer for the show, periodically directing the episodes. The protagonist of the series is an Australian actress, who speaks in a Kansas accent via the show. The actress is extremely talented. The show is unique in concept and plot; however, it does not meet the same quality of humor present in shows like Weeds or Modern Family. But I have to say that the third season is very intense and the plot is sparkling more than ever. I am ecstatic over Cody's creative vision and force for this season, which will continue to progress as she is extremely gifted in the arts and literature. Unfortunately, this season had the lowest viewership, and therefore, will conclude at the end of the season. Starring: Toni Collete (as Tara Gregson), Rosemarie DeWitt (as Charmaine Craine), John Corbett (as Max Gregson), Brie Larson (as Kate Gregson), Keir Gilchrist (as Marshall Gregson) Recurring Stars: Patton Oswalt (as Neil Kowalski), Fred Ward (as Frank Craine), Pamela Reed (as Beverley Craine), Nathan Corddry (as Gene Stuart; season 1), Andrew Lawrence (as Jason; season 1), Valerie Mahaffey (as Dr. Lilly Ocean; season 1), Hayley McFarland (as Petula; season 1), Joel Gretsch (as Dr. Holden; season 1), Jessica St. Clair (as Tiffany; season 1), Matthew Del Negro (as Nick Hurley; season 1-2), Zosia Mamet (as Courtney; season 2), Viola Davis (as Lynda Frazier; season 2), Joey Lauren Adams (as Pammy; season 2), Sammy Sheik (as Hany; season 2), Seth Gabel (as Zach; season 2), Michael J. Willet (as Lionel Trane; season 2-3), Michael Hitchcock (as Ted Mayo; season 2-present), Eddie Izzard (as Dr. Jack Hattarras; season 3), Aaron Christian Howles (as Noah; season 3)

Reception: Approximately 2.67 million people watched episodes weekly, resulting in Showtime's top ratings in six years. Winner, 2009 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Winner, 2009 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design Winner, 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy

My Rating: A 4. Parenthood: Season 1-present (2010-TBD) Parenthood is a dramedy on ABC, following the day-to-day lives of four families, all of whom are related to the grandparents. Because it takes place in the twenty-first century, most of the the scenarios the families experience happen today. For example, one eight-year-old boy struggles with Asperger's syndrome (a high-functioning form of autism), in which he exhibits exclusive and preservative interests, social skill deficits, sensory experiences, and is inflexible with changes in his routine. The boy has a home-based behavioral aide -- who is specialized in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a scientifically proven treatment for autism spectrum disorders which combines Behavior Analysis with Behavior Modification techniques -- was very helpful in managing his behaviors by using "reinforcers, " such as stickers. However, after his birthday party, the therapist had a sexual affair with his engaged uncle at the time. Subsequently, she felt guilty and quits which leads to the father having an internal dispute with his brother. To make things more complex, when the boy walks down the stairs, he overhears their conversation and discovers that he has the disorder. The boy does not know what it is though and he asks them with a sense of confusion. If you ask me personally, the show at times can be a bit of a soap opera than a "comedy-drama, " though the show does have its moments of humorous situations. The series was based on the characters created by film director Ron Howard -- as well as, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, who are not credited on-screen -- and is adapted by Howard's self-titled film starring famed actor Steve Martin, of The Pink Panther fame. Howard serves as executive producer; however, Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) developed the series and is the executive producer, in the form of showrunner and head writer. Not only has Katims written the most critical episodes, but he has also directed an episode during the third season. Furthermore, Emmy award-winning actor Craig T. Nelson (Poltergeist, Coach, The Incredibles, The Proposal); famed actor Dax Shepard; Lauren Graham, of Gillmore Girls fame; and child actors Miles Heizer (Rails & Ties) and Max Burkholder (Daddy Day Care, In Treatment) are featured in the ensemble cast. All in all, it's a wonderful family show, is well written, and features a great ensemble! Starring: Peter Krause (as Adam Braverman), Lauren Graham (as Sarah Braverman), Dax Shepard (as Crosby Braverman), Monica Potter (as Kristina Braverman), Erika Christensen (as Julia Braverman-Graham), Sam Jaeger (as Joel Graham), Savannah Paige Rae (as Sydney Graham), Sarah Ramos (as Haddie Braverman), Max Burkholder (as Max Braverman), Joy Bryant (as Jasmine Trussell), Tyree Brown (as Jabbar Trussell-Braverman), Miles Heizer (as Drew Braverman-Holt), Mae Whitman (as Amber Braverman-Holt), with Bonnie Bedelia (as Camille Braverman), and Craig T. Nelson (as Zeek Braverman) Recurring Stars: Erinn Hayes (as Racquel), Marguerite Moreau (as Katie), Tom Amandes (as Dr. Pelikan), Jason Ritter (as Mark Cyr), Minka Kelly (as Gabby), Asher Book (as Steve Williams), William Baldwin (as Gordon Flint), Phil Abrams (as Phil Lessing), Amanda Foreman (as Suze Lessing), Tina Lifford (as Renee Trussell), Michael B. Jordan (as Alex), Darin Heames (as Seth Holt), John Corbett (as Seth Holt) Reception: The first season was watched by 6.39 million viewers. My Grade: A
