The KYMCO Quannon 150: Best Beginner Sport Bike?

KYMCO is a Taiwanese manufacturer which has long been known to produce a vast array of popular scooters. Currently, they have more at least 8 different scooters available in the US market. Recently, however, they have taken a new step into the motorcycling road. It's called the KYMCO Quannon 150, and it offers sport bike styling with beginner-friendly power.

Origins of the Quannon 150

The idea for the Quannon 150 began in the UK market, where novice motorcyclists must graduate through a series of increasingly larger displacement bikes to earn their full motorcycling endorsement. One of these levels is 125cc, and large manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, Aprilia, Derbi, and others offer sporty bikes in the European market with only 125cc of engine displacement. Sadly, in the US we do not get to enjoy many of these models. Surely it would improve accident and fatal injuries rates among beginner riders if so many did not believe -- or were not led to believe -- that 100 hp, 600cc sport bikes make good beginners' motorcycles.

Technical Specifications

In any case, KYMCO has taken a brave new step in making their 125cc offering available in the US. They increased displacement to 150cc, and the single-cylinder air-cooled engine makes a novice-friendly 14 hp. The bike may be no rocketship, but the tame power output should qualify for very affordable rates of student motorcycle insurance -- one of the bike's primary demographics. Curb weight is just shy of 300 lb, and seat height is 31". Testers have noted that the seat feels any lower due to the slimness of the machine's seat and frame. The only other bike which offers a package of such sport bike styling along with beginner-friendly horsepower is the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. However, that bike costs a grand more and has a 1-year warranty versus the Quannon's 2-year warranty.

Who is the Quannon 150 Right For?

This bike may be best-suited for new riders who wish to one day graduate to a sport bike, but are wise enough to begin their motorcycling lives on a reasonable mount. The bike may also be a good choice for those who need the usability and affordability of a scooter, but would like to enjoy a more active, sporty riding experience. Given the bike's small displacement and power output, it should qualify for rates only slightly higher than could be expected for 50cc scooter insurance.

I have a limit of $3500 that I can spend on a motorcycle. I am just beginning riding, so I can't really handle a bike over 700cc's or 400lbs. Thanks in advance to all answerers! I'm very interested to see what the answers are.

What is the best beginner motorcycle, but yet sporty looking?
I want to ride a motorcycle but don't know much about them. I here people talk about 700's and 600's and I am like "what!?!". SO someone let me know the best one for a beginner and what exactly is a 600 -700 -1000? I plan on riding every now and then in town.
