Top Ten Action Movies Of All Time
Action movies come in all shapes and size, from one man wrecking crews to cars and gadgets beyond our wildest dreams. Here are the ten best action movies of all time, in no particular order that any movie enthusiast should not miss out on.
Thunderball (1965)
This James Bond movie, starring the legendary Sean Connery, was the fourth in the franchise and the best all around movie to date. Not only did the movie contain solid plot and unique gadgets, movie fans were able to witness one of the most amazing action sequences that took place underwater between the organization Spectre and United States aqua-troopers. Even if you are not a fan of the James Bond franchise, you will find yourself enthralled in this action film from the beginning to the end.
First Blood (1982)
This action movie introduced us to Sylvester Stallone, who played Vietnam Vet John Rambo. After Rambo experiences a mental breakdown and breaks out of a rural town jail, he holes up in the mountains. As the corrupt officers try to track him down, action fans get to see Rambo utilize his combat and survival skills. This movie not only started a Rambo franchise, but helped elevate Stallone's place in the terms of being an action hero.
The Great Escape (1963)
This World War II action movie was based on a true story of a group of Allied prisoners of war who were able to escape from prison camp Stalag Luft III. Steve McQueen led an impressive cast, which included Charles Bronson, James Garner, James Colburn, and Richard Attenborough. There were several memorable scenes in the movie like the motorcycle chase involving McQueen that helped make this action movie one of the best of all time.
Kill Bill, Volume 1 (2003)
When it comes to action movies, Kill Bill, Volume 1, earns a spot on this list thanks to its simple premise of Uma Thurman's character eager to seek revenge upon those who tried to kill her on her wedding day. Director Quentin Tarantino teases our senses by using influences from a wide range of movie stereotypes. Though the fight scenes are bloodbath, you can not help but remain glued to the screen to see what will happen when she does finally catch up to Bill.
Die Hard (1988)
The perfect match was made when Bruce Willis took the role of John McClane in the action movie Diehard. This movie helped advanced the action movie genre by showing the audience the hero does not have to be the strongest and that there is more to them than just simply shooting and killing the bad guy. Though many have tried, no other action hero has been able to perfect the comedy timing Willis had in the movie. Among the memorable movie scenes, one that comes to mind is McClane jumping off the side of the building, with a fire hose tied around his waist as the roof explodes.
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
When it comes to the Star Wars franchise, action scenes were adequate but rarely took over the story line. Things were different in the darker atmosphere of the Empire Strikes Back. From the battles on the Ice Planet to the confrontation between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, this movie has a constant steady pace of action. Even non Star Wars fans can appreciate this action movie for what it is.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
The Indian Jones trilogy started off with a bang with Raiders of the Lost Ark and never looked back. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas created one of the most memorable action scenes that occurred within the first fifteen minutes of the movie. Harrison Ford seemed made for the part and brought the Jones character to life. The image of a large boulder rolling down a narrow tunnel behind Indiana Jones has been embedded in the minds of movie goers for years.
The Matrix (1999)
The Wachowski brothers unleashed Keanu Reeves inner action hero when they released the groundbreaking action movie, the Matrix. Though the plot line and character development was top notch and a surprising strength of the movie, the real draw of the movie was the amazing actions scenes that were pieced together. The fight scenes between Neo and Mr. Smith were everything and more. Though the two sequels did receive some success, none matched what the Matrix did to help revive the action movie genre.
Aliens (1979)
This movie, directed by James Cameron, brought an added level of terror to the previous Alien movie by a hundred fold and created an action film to last the ages. Sigourney Weaver earned an Oscar for her part in Aliens as the heroine Ellen Ripley. The movie creates an eventual showdown between humans and aliens that keeps movie enthusiasts on the edge of their seat until the very end.
Enter the Dragon (1973)
This action movie was the last completed movie of Bruce Lee was the stepping soon for the introduction of martial arts movies to the American audience. Bruce Lee's performance on the screen mesmerizes you and has you wanting more. The most memorable scene in this movie is the fight scene in the hall of mirrors between Lee and Han. Though many have tried to duplicate the action from Enter the Dragon, none have come close to matching it.

What?s the best all around motorcycle for a beginner doing light commuting?
I am male, 6?2?, 200+lbs. I am not looking for a Ninja-style bike, nor a Harley. I like BMW bikes, but don?t think I am ready to pay for one. I am open to Honda, Kawasaki & Suzuki, but don?t know where to start. I would like something that is comfortable, reliable, low maintenance and best bang for the buck. I will ride no more than 5 miles per weekday and possibly on the weekends if my wife will allow me! Any suggestions from the pros are greatly appreciated. Thx!
